Woonona beach in the early morning light is the perfect place for a beach breakfast. With hardly a soul around, a light breeze, the sun blazing and a thermos of hot coffee – who needs a café?
Below are your breakfast picnic essentials;
On the beach is spectacular but consider the invasion of sand and pack wisely. We got Ariah Blue to back her bottom up to the picnic blanket and plop down so that her feet stayed on the sand – this worked for a few minutes. But the view and the sound of the waves was worth it. The Woonona pool does offer a sand free place to dine with a lovely outlook over the pool and out over the ocean.
We went for the simplest option – what we would normally eat at home packed up and transported. Sultana Bran, fresh fruit and a thermos of coffee. The Woonona bakery (the one on the right hand side of the chicken shop) has the most divine croissants and if you get there early enough warm bacon and cheese rolls. They use a smoked bacon which makes the calories worth it.
I know that most people haven’t used a thermos since 1969 – but we somehow we had two tucked away in the cupboard and filled one with milk and one with coffee. But if you need something a bit more 2015 then you can pick up your brew at the North Break Café opposite the park and walk it to your picnic.
The waves will surely entice you in so pack/wear your swimmers and take some towels. Wet wipes, plastic bags and a tea towel always come in handy.
