The Little Zoo – Symbio Wildlife Park

Koala

If you have a brood of little ones or overseas visitors wanting to pet a Koala or get up close with a Kangaroo – then just 25 minutes from Wollongong is Symbio Wildlife Park.  A small well designed Zoo that is the perfect place to take in some wildlife, enjoy a picnic and get close to the animals. The best part is that this could easily be a whole day excursion or a quick visit that leaves your afternoon free to do other things.

Monkey

The parks animals range from exotic, distinctly Australian, tiny, interesting to a little bit scary. The Zoo has places to picnic on the grass, an undercover area with picnic tables, a pool for steamy days and a kiosk.

SymbioGrounds

There are Zoo Keeper presentations every day.  I would recommend the Koala show and the crocodile feeding (it is interesting even when the crocodiles don’t want to eat!).

Joeys
Peacocks roam freely and the animals are presented at different eye levels that making it interesting at every turn.  Be sure to take your camera.  This is an ideal place to visit if you have younger children as it is exciting enough to keep them entertained but compact enough that they are not going too get worn out.

On the weekends head there for opening times and then finish by having an Indian vegetarian lunch at the Hindu Temple.  The Kiosk offers simple (mostly deep fried) fare so if you are after something a bit healthier it is best to pack lunch.

Things to Know:  The feed that they sell for the animals is a bit of waste the poor animals are fed so much of it that they are not overly interested.  The photo with a Koala can be really good if you are from overseas as you can get up close and pat them.  But save yourself some cash by taking selfie’s with the goats and kangaroos that are around.
