With raining sprinkling down today – I was inspired to share with you all the secret pockets along the coast which offer fun and entertainment to fill a rainy day.

So here are my  20 ways to enjoy the Wollongong coast – rain, hail or shine!

  1. If you have young children up to the age of 6 The Early Start Discovery Space offers interactive play, story time, crafts and has a great cafe next door
  2. Art lovers are well looked after at the Wollongong Art Gallery the old town hall has been converted to a small and manageable gallery with interesting exhibitions and great staff
  3. If your body needs to release some energy then the Hang Dog Climbing Gym offers indoor rock climbing with climbs to suit all levels
  4. Bounce your way to happiness at HangTime trampoline park, with special areas set aside for little ones and more daring jumps and pits for the more adventurous
  5. Although a little dated the Science Centre & Planetarium offers interactive exhibitions and science shows and interesting exhibits
  6. If you feel like challenging your fitness and trying the technology that professional bicyclists use then be sure to drop into Blue Athletic – pump your legs into jelly and then take in a yoga class for total bliss
  7. Find boundless peace at Nan Tien Temple the largest Buddhist temple in the southern hemisphere. You can walk around the gardens, join in meditation and enjoy vegetarian fare in the cafe
  8. Drive out all those frustrations and feel the adrenaline of motor sports at C1 Speed Indoor Karting
  9. Take in some unusual architecture and some amazing religious art at Saint Dimitrija Solunski
  10. Explore Wollongong’s industrial past and go behind the scenes with a tour of The Port Kembla Steel Works

  11. The Clifton School Of Arts holds intimate exhibitions of art from local artists and is worth a visit
  12. Put on a great soundtrack and take a long leisurely drive along the Grand Pacific Drive which hugs the coast line and offers beautiful views, go over the Sea Cliff bridge and keep going and take the coast road into the Royal National Park stop for coffee and cake at the Audley Dance Hall and Cafe
  13. Catch a last minute show at the IPAC Theatre try something you would never have thought of seeing or revisit an old favourite
  14. Visit little India and drop into the Hindu temple in Helensburgh for some colourful culture and yummy food get your food to takeway as the open air kiosk can get windy and cold when it is wet
  15. Go retro with a few rounds of Ten Pin Bowling add snacks and music and it feels like a party
  16. To still get your fair share of swimming head to Beaton Park for a heated pool, warm change rooms and hot chips afterwards
  17. Relax and get your nails painted at the Mani Factorie in Wollongong, NZ Nail and Foot Spa at Thirroul or the Elan Salon at Bulli
  18. Give yourself an unlimited calorie budget and visit Kurtosh with a promise to try everything from the traditional Hungarian pastry known as Chimney cake to the slab cakes and pastries
  19. Take in some live music and exceptional food at the Heritage Hotel in Bulli
  20. The Foragers Markets has a large undercover section which offers fresh produce and tasty treats no matter the weather
